This tutorial gives detailed instructions on how to make a complex Santa cane. The cane is large and the techniques involved mean that you should have intermediate to advanced skills in cane making and large cane reduction. The steps involved are basic, so if you're a quick study it might be a pleasant challenge. I have included a pattern to guide you to making your Santa as accurate as the one I have pictured.
The tutorial is broken down into 15 basic steps (making eyes, making nose, etc), but there are lots of sub-steps in each basic step. The whole process is illustrated with 30 photos. Hope you try yours in time for the holidays! Thank you!
Materials: Polymer Clay – red (2-3 blocks), white (2-3 blocks), silver (1-2 blocks), pink (1/4 block), tan or brown(less than 1/4 block), flesh or beige (3-4 blocks) & translucent, black or your background color of choice (5-6 blocks depending on how much background you desire, a firmer clay such as Kato is recommended for best results)
Tools: Extruder (optional), Pasta Machine, Straight Blade, Acrylic roller or brayer, Pin, needle holer or small knitting needle, ruler or graduated work surface (such as a self-healing quilter's mat)
